about

I had a flipping crazy roll, slide into a ditch car crash when I was 17 where I could've easily died had it not been for a bit of luck. Someone asked me recently if I had had any life changing events and a few days later I remembered this one that I had always locked away as an embarrassed and scared 17 year old.

Looking back this week I re-remembered the crash and it wasn't scary as it was surreal... it's amazing how I can reply in slow motion in my head... As I revisit it has become a beautiful near death experience where I can float in that space between life and death and actualise how many lives I have touched and affected......and how it would've looked if it had worked out differently (tears like rivers flowed, flowers by the road).

During the crash I was listening to the song 'Sitting up straight' by Supergrass and clearly remember the lyrics Sitting up straight on the backseat of a bus , Mimicking time as evening turns to dusk as I was hanging upside down in a ditch with glass everywhere, the smell of the airbag and the moment between future and the past...

I actually climbed out of the wreckage and walked a mile to a farm house (walking towards the light to find a peace of mind!!) in the dead of night, in the rain.... No-one was home/no-one answered so I had to walk back and climb back into the car to find a cellphone in the pitch dark. Some-how I found the phone, it worked and my dad came to find me.... I can only image what he was feeling!

For the recording my DAW is creating a really annoying and wierd random static noises so I've masked it with a grungelizer effect. Link is after the lyrics....

lyrics

Car Crash

Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden
In the stillness of the night , All alone inside

Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden,
I walked towards the light, To find peace of mind

Sitting up straight on the backseat of a bus
Mimicking time as evening turns to dusk

Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden,
Looking through the glass My future met the past
Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden,
A calmness in the air Powerless to care

Sitting up straight on the backseat of a bus
Mimicking time as evening turns to dusk

Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden,
I'm a universal soul, Stories were not told
Take me back to the car crash where everything turned golden,
I'm a universal soul, Flowers by the road

Sitting up straight on the backseat of a bus
Mimicking time as evening turns to dusk
Out of control, the illusion of our lives
Forcing our hand to simply wave good-bye

Take me back to the car crash
